چکیده

Divergence paralysis is characterized by acquired horizontal homonymous diplopia when viewing distant objects but without limitation of ocular movements (Bielschowsky, I935). Although raised intracranial pressure is a significant aetiological factor in the production of divergence paralysis (Bender and Savitsky, I940; Chamlin and Davidoff, I950, 1951), there has been much diversity of opinion as to the underlying mechanism. TIhe present report describes three patients with divergence paralysis in whom electrooculography was used to measure peak angular velocities during horizontal ocular saccades. The apparatus used for electro-oculography has been previously described (Hallpike, Hood, and Trinder, I960; Hood, I968).

Intracranial hypertension presenting with severe visual failure, without concurrent headache, in a child with nephrotic syndrome

BACKGROUND Idiopathic intracranial hypertension is a condition typically characterised by headache, normal level of consciousness, papilloedema and raised cerebrospinal fluid pressure. Children often present with visual loss and atypical features of raised pressure, posing a diagnostic and management challenge. A range of renal disorders can predispose to developing this raised intracranial pre...

Transorbital Sonographic Evaluation of Normal Optic Nerve Sheath Diameter in Healthy Volunteers in Bangladesh

INTRODUCTION Measurement of optic nerve sheath diameter (ONSD) by ultrasound is increasingly used as a marker to detect raised intracranial pressure (ICP). ONSD varies with age and there is no clear consensus between studies for an upper limit of normal. Knowledge of normal ONSD in a healthy population is essential to interpret this measurement. METHODS In a prospective observational study, O...

Unilateral papilledema after trabeculectomy in a patient with intracranial hypertension.

BACKGROUND Increased intracranial pressure usually leads to bilateral disc swelling. HISTORY AND SIGNS A patient presented with recurrent visual disturbances following trabeculectomy in the right eye. Intraocular pressure in the right and left eye were 11 and 24 mmHg, respectively. The optic nerve head was swollen in the right, but not in the left eye. Lumbar puncture showed an opening pressu...
